Bill and Melinda Gates are married for 25 years already, and still wash the dishes together

Being the wife of one of the richest people in the world is an easy job, isn’t it? Probably, most people in this position wouldn’t waste their energy on household chores, entrusting this work to hired housemaids.

Nevertheless, billionaires Bill and Melinda still wash the dishes together every day. It’s a tradition that they have been following for already many years and which helped them keep their strong marriage.

Bill and Melinda married 25 years ago.

Melinda and Bill met each other in 1987, when the woman got a job at Microsoft. They fell in love with each other, and have been married for 25 years and have 3 children together. Together, they set up the largest private foundation in the world – Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

They also had some difficulties in their family life.

During her first pregnancy, Melinda was lonely, because Bill was too busy being the head of Microsoft. Luckily, they could overcome all the difficulties, as the couple could think everything over and find the right way out. Particularly, they decided to wash the dishes together, so that Melinda didn’t have to do everything alone.

Melinda recalls: “One day I realized, I was the only one to stay in the kitchen 10-15 minutes longer than everyone else, just because I do some finishing things. Sometimes, at times like this, I am filled with anger. And so one time after the dinner, when everyone got up from the table and were ready to run to their rooms, I put my hands on my hips and said: “Now listen here! No one leaves the kitchen before I do!”

Since then, a good tradition has appeared in the Gates family.

Washing the dishes might seem a trifle to some people. However, Melinda believes that the equal distribution of responsibilities between spouses is the key to a long and healthy relationship.

That’s why this billionaire family still washes the dishes together, and intends to always keep doing so!

And how do you share your family responsibilities?
